Christmas Trip to Belize and Guatemala

For our Christmas trip of 2016, four of us (myself, brother Ray, friends Lee and Adriene) flew out to Belize City. We split the subsequent ten days between the jungle and the beach. Lee drove us all over the little country of Belize with only 400 miles of paved roads, and we even crossed the border into Guatemala for one night so we could climb Tikal for a cloudy (and very early) sunrise. Half of the trip felt quite adventurous with a waterfall hike, cavern canoe paddle (Ray paddled, I held the light), river-cave slog to Mayan sacrificial skeletons, and snorkeling. The other half was quite relaxing with sits in beach cabanas, many Beliken beers, and lots of card and board games. Belizeans are quite friendly and the food – a blend of Mexican with Jamaican – is quite wonderful. I’d like to return to explore more of Guatemala.
